Stones Workshop: France

April 8th - 17th 2009

Stones have been known to move and trees to speak” (Macbeth)

Physical Training, Ensemble and Macbeth

Leader:
John Britton

Au Brana Cultural Centre, Pauilhac, South of France

Ten days of immersive psycho-physical training explored within the context of a developing Ensemble.

7-10 hours a day to explore a set of principles and understandings that will serve any style of performance or skill-base.

Workshop leader JOHN BRITTON has been developing his approach to psychophysical training for the last 15 years.

It is drawn from his own experience as a performer, improviser and director and brings together influences from the European Laboratory Tradition (Grotowski, Meyerhold, Barba, Staniewski) and improvisational methods that emerged from the American dance scene in the 1950s and 60s (especially as developed by Al Wunder).

John has taught in Portugal, Britain, Australia, Berlin, Mexico, Slovenia and Sweden and he is Senior Lecturer in Performance at the University of Huddersfield where he is course leader and trainer on the MA Ensemble Physical Theatre, Training and Performance.

John will be assisted by Eilon Morris- performer, musician and percussionist, currently studying for a PhD at the University.

Both are core collaborators in my Lady Purple Project.
